Multimodal hallucinations in psychosis

Research Participants Wanted - Multimodal hallucinations in psychosis

Multimodal hallucinations in psychosis

Researchers at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne are conducting a study looking at cognition and perceptual experiences in psychosis. This includes experiences of hearing voices/sounds that others do not, and other sensations without a clear source. Individuals aged 18-65 who have received a schizophrenia-spectrum or mood-related diagnosis are invited to attend several sessions online and/or in-person. Taking part involves completing questionnaires and interviews about mental health experiences, task tapping into memory and problem-solving skills, and sensory assessments (e.g., vision, hearing). Participants will be reimbursed for their time.

Commitment: Total study involvement (sessions, take home activities etc) - 10 hours. Originally designed to be in person (in Victoria) however researchers have since received further ethics approval to conduct sessions online to facilitate national participation. Reimbursement of $150 total.

Criteria: 18-65 years, on stable psychiatric medication for at least eight weeks (if applicable). Case groups will have a psychosis-spectrum (e.g. schizophrenia) or mood disorder (e.g. bipolar) diagnosis AND predominant voice-hearing experiences (Group 1), OR unusual experiences involving two or more of their senses (Group 2), OR no significant unusual sensory experiences (Group 3).
