What is a carer?
If someone in your family or someone you’re close to is living with a mental illness and you assist them in any way at all, you are considered as their carer.
We find that some carers don’t identify as such because they see taking care of their loved one as just part of being a family.
Being a carer comes with its own set of challenges outside of the day-to-day. For example, if the person for whom you are caring is taken to hospital and you’re not included, how can you ensure you are kept updated? What about your health and wellbeing? What about your own life goals?
Through One Door Carer Services you can access help tailored specifically to you as a carer of someone living with mental illness.
