From the CEO
Hello everyone
I’m excited and energised to start 2023 with some new opportunities for growth at One Door. This includes the opening of our new Canterbury Head to Health. The service opened on Monday 30 January 2023, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of people in the region by providing and connecting them to the right care, when and where it is needed.
As part of our 2022-2024 Strategic Plan we’re delighted to announce the launch of our Recovery 2gether Institute. The Institute will further develop of our way of working called Recovery 2gether and offer to other workplaces the chance to share and understand different ways of working. You can read more about the Recovery 2gether Institute here.
Financial Year 2021-2022 saw us delivering over 160,000 supports – 33% of which were through our NDIS services, and the remainder through our other funded programs, including 6% through our family and carer services. I was pleased to see our continued success in delivering services to culturally and linguistically diverse communities that formed over 20% of the people we support. This reflects a diverse and multicultural Australia, and we will continue to work with community leaders and local services to improve access to culturally appropriate supports that meet the unique needs of these populations.
Last Thursday, Australians came together to celebrate our modern nation. Regardless of how you feel about the date, it was an opportunity to reflect on our diversity and history, and how we can move forward to a more just and reconciled Australia. The Referendum later this year to establish an Indigenous Voice to Parliament will be a great step forward in providing a way for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to directly advise the Government on laws and policies that affect them.
Also in January, we were able to finally attend the NAIDOC Touch Football Tournament held at Benham Oval in Minto, hosted by Campbelltown City Police Area Command. I was excited to attend the opening formalities and smoking ceremony, conducted by Uncle Ivan Wellington, and was proud of our Connector Hub team that ran our information stall and braved the heat.
Once again One Door will be participating in Mardi Gras Fair Day on Sunday 19 February. No matter which letters of the LGBTQIA+ community you represent, or if you're one of our wonderful allies, there is something for everyone at Fair Day. It's such a fun, family friendly day, with tons of retail stalls, community stalls, food, and entertainment. If you are around on the day, make sure you come and say hello!
Keep reading for more information about upcoming events, including the Term 1 calendar for our Western Sydney Recovery College, and I’ll see you all next month.
