Head to Health Canterbury adopts a fresh brand

Service Update

Canterbury Medicare Mental Health Centre continues to support locals

The Canterbury Head to Health service in New South Wales is rebranding and will soon be called the Canterbury Medicare Mental Health Centre.

While the name is changing, people living in Sydney’s west will continue to benefit from a safe and welcoming space at the centre located at Level 1, Suite 10, 1205 Canterbury Road, Wiley Park (NSW).

Medicare Mental Health Centres provide locals with walk-in access to free and confidential mental health care, information and support, without needing a referral, Medicare card or an appointment.

Staffed by qualified mental health professionals and people with lived experience of mental health challenges, the centre provides immediate support to people in distress, including their families and carers. It can also connect people with other support services, such as housing and employment assistance, to support them in the future.

Canterbury Medicare Mental Health Centre Program Manager Rafia Marsh said the centre, which opened in January 2023, is one of the first to adopt Open Dialogue approach – an approach to mental health care that sees family members, carers and social networks play an integral role in a person’s recovery journey.

“Canterbury Medicare Mental Health Centre focuses on fostering collaborative care, where the voices of individuals, their families, and support networks are central to the decision-making process,” Ms Marsh said.

“The Centre aims to empower people in their mental health journeys, ensuring they are active participants in their own care while strengthening their support network for long term support beyond their engagement with our service.”

The Canterbury Medicare Mental Health Centre is delivered and managed by One Door Mental Health - a proud member of the Mind Australia Group, which includes Mind Australia, One Door and The Haven Foundation.

All Medicare Mental Health Centres will also soon provide enhanced services, including free access to a psychologist and psychiatrist either in person or via telehealth.

Locals who are not able to visit the centre in person can call 1800 595 212 to speak to an experienced professional to receive advice or a referral to a service that meets their needs. For more information about the Medicare Mental Health Centres visit the Department of Health’s website.

One Door Mental Health is a proud member of the Mind Australia Group, which includes Mind Australia, One Door and The Haven Foundation. One Door formally joined the Mind Australia Group in January 2024 to establish one of the largest community managed mental health and wellbeing service specialists in Australia.
